Differing perspectives on Samsung's semi see-through efforts

Two-lane highways can be dangerous when semi trucks are on the road, and one of the biggest dangers to Pennsylvania motorists who are behind big rigs can be knowing when it is safe to pass. Samsung has been testing a new technology on trucks in Argentina, a nation faced with extremely high accident rates on its numerous two-lane highways. The see-through technology involves the provision of live video on the backs of big trucks through wireless cameras mounted on the fronts of the trucks. The grill positioning of the cameras makes it possible for following motorists to see the same view that truck drivers have.

Safety precautions a hospital patient can take

Every year, patients in Pennsylvania hospitals are injured and killed because of preventable doctor errors and hospital infections. It has been estimated that more than 400,000 people around the country die each year from negligent hospital treatment. Although hospitals are responsible for the safety of their patients, patients can do some things to protect themselves before and during their hospital stay.

Serious surgical mistakes often caused by poor communication

A recent study has found that despite the unprecedented scientific and technological advances that have occurred in medicine in recent decades, serious mistakes during surgery still occasionally happen in Pennsylvania hospitals. These serious errors during surgery are often easily preventable and can involve surgeons performing an operation on the wrong person, operating on the wrong part of the body or leaving a foreign object inside a patient's body.

Collision avoidance systems recommended for new vehicles

Pennsylvania drivers may be interested to learn that the National Transportation Safety Board has recently repeated its earlier recommendation that collision avoidance systems be included as a standard piece of equipment in all new commercial and passenger vehicles. While a decision like this could increase costs for consumers, the Board's chairman argued that the costs should be the responsibility of the manufacturers.
