Merv Heller has practiced law in Berks County for over thirty years. His practice focuses on real estate development, municipal and business law, and he has represented national, regional and local developers in significant retail, commercial and residential developments.
Merv currently serves as Chairman of
the Board & Executive Committee of the Berks Economic
Partnership. He has been the solicitor for Berks County’s Convention Center Authority and its County Solid Waste Authority and the Berks County Chamber of Commerce. He also served as special counsel to the Berks County Industrial Development Authority.
Activities & Awards
Merv is the Managing Partner of Leisawitz Heller. In addition, he has also served the Greater Reading community as Chairman of the Berks County Chamber of Commerce in 2004 and 2005. He is a Board member of several key economic development organizations serving Reading and Berks County, including the Berks Economic Partnership as Chair and the Greater Berks Development Fund.
In 2001 and 2002 Merv was President, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of the United States Tennis Association. During this same period, he chaired the US Open, one of sports most prestigious events. He has served as Vice President and Director of the Board of the International Tennis Federation (ITF). His work with both organizations has brought him in close touch with numerous heads of state, leaders of foreign countries, and many professional athletes of celebrity status. In 1999 the ReadingEagle recognized Merv as “one of the 50 most influential sports figures over the past 50 years” in Berks County, Pennsylvania.
Education
A graduate of Reading High School, he received his B.S. degree in education from East Stroudsburg University and his Juris Doctor from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. A person of the people, he relishes principles. “A good attorney,” he says, “combines common sense with knowledge of the law, has a good work ethic, and helps a client reach the right decision.”
