Children injured as vehicle crashes with buggy near Lancaster

Drivers are required to exercise caution and care whenever they are behind the wheel. By upholding this duty, motorists do their best to protect the safety of passengers and others who are on or near the road. Although the final accident report has yet to be released, a recent car accident in Pennsylvania could be the result of driver negligence.

According to reports, at least five people were injured when an SUV collided with a horse-and-buggy in central Pennsylvania. Apparently, the buggy was merging onto the road as the vehicle was approaching, and the motorist was unable to stop in time. As a result of the crash, the "buggy was destroyed" and all of its occupants were thrown onto the road, which necessitated medical attention.

Four of the injured people in the car accident were children, including an infant. All of the buggy's passengers were brought to a local hospital. Thankfully, however, it doesn't appear as though any of the car accident injuries are considered to be life threatening. Even though everyone in the buggy sustained some sort of injury, the SUV's driver was unharmed.

At this point, local law enforcement officials haven't indicated if one particular party is considered to be responsible for the accident. Depending on how the investigation turns out, it may be possible for the injured Pennsylvania family to seek compensation for damages with a personal injury lawsuit. Regardless, it may be beneficial for the victims to determine their legal rights and responsibilities in light of the accident.

As the summer months continue, drivers should be on the lookout for an increased number of pedestrians, cyclists and people in other small vehicles. A moment of inattention can have devastating consequences. Knowing this, steps should be taken to reduce the risk of accidents whenever possible.
