Pennsylvania accident leaves 1 dead, hospitalizes several others

An August 15 accident on Route 30 in Franklin County left one person dead and five other people injured. Police reported that the accident happened at approximately 7:48 a.m., when a vehicle driven by a 63-year-old man drifted into oncoming traffic near the Mountain View Avenue intersection.

According to police, the 63-year-old man's vehicle collided with a vehicle being driven by a 51-year-old man. Subsequent to that collision, the 63-year-old man lost control of his vehicle and collided with another vehicle, this one driven by a 33-year-old woman.

Consequently, the 63-year-old man and 33-year-old woman both suffered injuries requiring aerial transport to York Hospital, where they received treatment for their undisclosed injuries. Emergency personnel transported three passengers in the woman's car, ages 15, 15 and 12, to Chambersburg Hospital for injuries that authorities described as minor.

The 51-year-old driver involved in the accident died, reportedly. According to officials, he suffered a cardiac arrest at the scene of the crash. Authorities closed down parts of Route 30 while police commenced an investigation into the event. It was not immediately clear if alcohol or drugs were factors in the accident.

The families of people who are killed in car accidents like this one might be entitled to financial compensation via civil action. For this reason, many bereaved families retain the representation and resources of a personal injury lawyer following a fatal accident. The attorney may help bereaved family members determine whether they have a viable wrongful death case. If so, the attorney may file all the requisite paperwork and assemble together the necessary evidence and resources to prove to a civil court that the at-fault party should be held liable for the deadly crash.
