Police continue to investigate the accident at this time. There is no indication that alcohol or drugs played a part. The woman was apparently the caregiver for her disabled husband for a number of years, according to a witness who came upon the scene just after the accident occurred.
Annually, many people are killed in car accidents because of the negligence of another driver. When such accidents occur, the negligent party may held civilly liable if the victim's loved ones file a lawsuit. Families may be able to recover damages for such things as medical expenses, funeral expenses, loss of income, loss of companionship and pain and suffering.
Families of those killed may benefit from meeting with a personal injury attorney who accepts wrongful death cases. He or she may be able to help their clients by identifying claims and recoverable damages, filing a civil complaint, negotiating with insurance companies and other attorneys and advocating for his or her client's interests in depositions and court hearings.
