1 dead, 1 injured in alleged hit-and-run

On Jan. 28, a Pennsylvania accident claimed the life of a Texas man who had been visiting the state for a funeral. The roll-over crash occurred on Parkway East near the Squirrel Hill Tunnel while the man and his brother were traveling toward downtown Pittsburgh, according to reports.

The deceased victim's brother, who suffered undisclosed injuries in the accident, was driving the vehicle. Speaking with a news outlet, the man suggested that a silver mid-sized sedan moved into their lane. While the victim's brother tried to get the other driver's attention and move out of the way, the sedan struck the victims' truck. The truck flipped and rolled down an embankment.

During the course of the accident, the driver and his brother were thrown out of the vehicle. The driver suggested that his brother landed about 12 feet away. He was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital but was eventually pronounced dead. Reports suggest that the driver of the silver sedan did not stay at the scene and has not come forward. At the time of reporting, the victim's family released a public statement asking the other driver to identify him or herself.

Such fatal accidents are not uncommon, and when a family loses the support of a family member after a crash, it can result in serious financial and emotional difficulties. In many cases, the party who allegedly caused the accident may be liable for those damages. When this is true, it may be possible to pursue a civil claim that seeks compensation against that party. Those who might choose to seek such compensation may work with an attorney would could represent their interests in court or during settlement negotiations.
