This blog recently discussed the serious nature of truck accidents and the impact they can have on victims. Unfortunately, they can result in death as well as life-long injuries and a lifetime impact. A truck driver was recently charged with felony homicide by a vehicle in relation to a Pennsylvania truck accident that killed one man and left another victim still struggling to recover from her injuries suffered in the accident.
According to authorities, the 34-year old truck driver had his eyes on a football game rather than the roadway when he struck and killed the 56-year old motorcycle rider. The truck accident took place on a Pennsylvania highway and left the motorcycle rider's passenger with serious injuries she continues to recover from. The truck driver was distracted by the football game when he struck the rear of the motorcycle; the victim died at the scene of the accident and his sister, the passenger, was seriously injured.
Though the truck driver was distracted by the football game, he initially told authorities he was distracted by construction. When a truck driver negligently causes a truck accident, such as by negligently driving distracted, fatigued or too fast, the driver may be liable to victims and their families for the harm suffered. Victims may be able to recover compensation for their damages through a personal injury claim for damages or a wrongful death claim for damages from a distracted truck driver. Damages can vary but generally include compensation for physical, financial and emotional harm.
Unexpected truck accidents can change the lives of victims and their families forever which is why it is necessary for victims to be familiar with the legal options available to them. Legal remedies can help them hold a negligent driver accountable and receive help with the damages they are left with.
